2015 Venice Workshop

The 25th Workshop took place in Venice on Friday and Saturday, June 5 and 6. More then 150 participants, among members of the Council and invited guests, including Italian and key international figures from politics, academia, industry, and finance were present in Venice.

Four keynote speeches were given, respectively by the Italian Ministers of Foreign Affairs Paolo Gentiloni and of Economy and Finance Pier Carlo Padoan, by James Manyika (Vice Chair President Obama’s Global Development Council and Director of McKinsey Global Institute), and by Martin Indyk, Executive Vice President of The Brookings Institution.

During the Workshop, four panels covered topics of global interest:

Europe and the 2015 elections: Greece, UK, Denmark, and Spain. Joaquín Almunia, former Vice-President of the European Commission, Bill Emmott, former Editor-in-chief of The Economist, Karin Riis-Jørgensen, Deputy Chairman of the European Alliance of Liberals and Democrats, and Loukas Tsoukalis (Professor, University of Athens and President, ELIAMEP) participated in the panel.

Economic growth and the recovery of investment in Europe. Lorenzo Bini Smaghi, Chairman of SNAM and of Chairman Société Générale, Jacob Frenkel, Chairman of JPMorgan Chase International, and David Folkerts-Landau, Chief Economist and Member of the Group Executive Committee of the Deutsche Bank.

The price of oil and its impact on the European, American and global economies. With the contribution of M. Ayhan Kose, Director, Development Prospects Group of the World Bank, Lucian Pugliaresi, President of Energy Policy Research Foundation, and Peter Sutherland, former Chairman of BP and special Representative of the Secretary General, United Nations for Migration.

The impact of the digital economy on the production and organization of work. With Roberto Crapelli, Managing Director of Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, Carlo D’Asaro Biondo, President EMEA Strategic Relationships of Google, and Jeremy Wyatt, Professor of robotics and artificial Intelligence at the School of Computer Science of the University of Birmingham.
