2009 Washington Seminar

The seminar “The First Year of the Obama Administration”, organized by Peterson Institute for International Economics and The Brookings Institution, took place in Washington on December 7. The Italian branch of the Council sponsors an Italy Program with a visiting fellow in both institutions.

The working sessions, open to the members and a few guests, were devoted to “The US Economy Situation and Prospects”, “The China Challenge and the Global System”, and “Changes and Achievements in the US Foreign Policy”. Sergio Marchionne, Italian Co-Chairman of the Council, was the keynote speaker at lunch. His presentation is available at www.iie.com.

The conference ended with a dinner hosted by the Italian Ambassador to the United States, Giulio Terzi di Sant’Agata, at his residence. Lawrence Summers, Director of the National Economic Council and Assistant to the President for Economic Policy, addressed the group.
