The Center on the United States and Europe (CUSE) at the Brookings Institution, in cooperation with the Council for the United States and Italy, is accepting applications for a Visiting Fellow for a period of six months to one year. The Fellow will conduct his or her own research on a range of foreign policy topics affecting U.S.-European relations and contribute to the Italy-related dimensions of the Center's activities. In addition to the research component of the fellowship, tasks will include planning and organizing roundtables, workshops, and press briefings; maintaining relations with Italian and EU officials and other members of the foreign policy community; conducting interviews and meetings with U.S. officials; making media appearances; and serving as an active participant in general Brookings events, particularly those that pertain to the activities and development of CUSE. A stipend, based on previous work experience and salary history, will be provided. The fellowship will begin in late fall 2010.

Eligibility
- Ideal candidates will have a combination of academic and professional experience in one or more of the following fields: Italian politics and foreign policy; EU politics and institutions; European integration and foreign policy; transatlantic relations; European security; and EU policy towards its neighbors.
- Applicants must have superior qualitative research, writing, editing and organizational skills; a demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and to produce a range of publications of the highest quality, including opinion pieces, longer analytical articles, and monographs or books; ease in effectively articulating research concepts and recommendations through verbal and written communications in English; ability to actively take part in Washington foreign-policy debates and transatlantic discussions, through participation in workshops, conferences and meetings with the news media.
- Fellow is expected to be in residence and working full-time at Brookings during the Fellowship.
