25th Anniversary Gala Dinner

The event for the 25th anniversary of the Council for U.S. and Italy took place on December 9, 2008, at the Plaza Hotel in New York. Co-Chairmen David Heleniak (Vice Chairman of Morgan Stanley) and Marco Tronchetti Provera (Chairman of Pirelli) hosted a Gala Dinner, in which approximately 300 persons participated, among them Fred Bergsten, Ambassador Giovanni Castellaneta, Gianluigi Gabetti, Kerry Kennedy, Henry Kissinger, former Minister Linda Lanzillotta, Sergio Loro Piana, Mario Monti, and Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Vincenzo Scotti.
During the Gala the first Agnelli-Rockefeller Award was granted to Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli (Chairman and CEO of Prada Group, respectively) for Italy and to Samuel Palmisano (Chairman and CEO of IBM Corporation) for the United States. These individuals were honored for their contributions to strengthening ties and furthering business relations between the United States and Italy.
Another high point of the evening was the showing of a video on the Council’s history and activities that was produced for the occasion.
Both Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and the President George W. Bush, along with Secretary of State-designate Hillary Clinton and Senator Charles E. Schumer, sent congratulatory messages.
